To meet our minimum security requirements for bicycle and e‑bike insurance, all locks must satisfy the following conditions:

Construction & Age

  • The lock must be constructed of hardened steel and designed to securely fasten a bicycle to an immovable object.
  • The lock must have been bought within two years before the start of your policy.

Minimum Price Requirements


For bicycles insured for $1,500 or less

  • U‑locks must have a minimum Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of $40.
  • Chain locks and folding locks must have a minimum RRP of $80.

For bicycles insured for more than $1,500

  • U‑locks must have a minimum RRP of $60.
  • Chain locks and folding locks must have a minimum RRP of $100.

If you're unsure whether your lock meets our requirements, email us with the lock's brand, model, and value. If possible, include a purchase receipt or photo, and we’ll confirm if it’s approved.

Please ensure that you lock your bike correctly by securing the frame to an immovable object with an approved lock.

Additional security bike locking tips
For added security, it is best practice to use a second lock to secure both wheels. While this is not a policy requirement, it is highly recommended to protect your bike from theft.
