The Tour de France—the highs and the lows
The three weeks of racing are drawing to a close. It has been an interesting race with plenty of highs and lows. Here are some of our highlights!
Inspiring stage victories, filled with raw emotion as we are able to see how much winning a stage at the Tour de France means to these professional cyclists.

Amazing displays of courage and determination. Riders pushed the limits of physical capabilities to finish a stage after crashing, honouring the Tour de France and their fellow members of the professional peloton.
Philippe Gilbert’s crash had many spectators around the world holding their breath as we waited for him to appear from the bushes. To witness him ride the 60km to the finish was remarkable!

Adam Yates has had a difficult 2018, but the hope is that he will use the lessons learnt this year and come back a stronger rider.

With all the serious crashes in this year’s race we searched for the most common injuries that cyclists suffer from. The team at the Global Cycling Network interviewed Doctor Kevin Sprouse, who is EF Education First-Drapac p/b Cannondale’s Team doctor at the Tour de France.
The French fans have had a fantastic tour. They can be happy with the future outlook for their promising young talent, who will one day win the tour if the fans have their way!
Having missed out on the Tour last year, Julian Alaphilippe had a point to prove and he certainly proved it!
A daredevil descent propelled @alafpolak to a second stage victory at #TDF2018 after the one in Le Grand-Bornand, at the race's 50th visit in Bagneres-de-Luchon, on a day which saw the Quick-Step Floors rider increase his lead in the polka dot jersey. pic.twitter.com/G3GilxjuJg

Pierre Latour is the current holder of the Tour’s white jersey. A strong ride by the youngster and it is going to be interesting to see how he develops, will he contend for GC honours in the future? Only time will tell!
Behind Bernal on this stage but @p_latour gets closer to win the youth classification! 👶

Cycling extreme adventure and near vertical descents
A bicycle provides you with a sense of freedom, its allows you to visit some amazing places and it provides you with a machine to satisfy your urges of adventure.
Most individuals enjoy an adventure every now and then. There are some cyclists, though, who take adventuring to the extreme, pushing themselves to do and achieve more. The Red Bull cycling team cover some amazing cycling stories and one of their latest ones features Michael Strasser’s adventure by bicycle from Alaska to Patagonia. Michael will cover around 23 000 km, that’s a long way to ride! Check out the full story here and track his progress.
While reading about Michael’s adventure we came across the Red Bull Trans-Siberian extreme. The word extreme says it all, it is an ultra-stage race which sees the riders cover 15 stages over 25 days. The race started on the 24thof July and ends on the 17thof August, read more about it here. If you want to know what it takes to participate in this adventure, check out last year’s highlights.
The meaning of adventure also differs for everyone—for some riders, Red Bull rampage ticks that box. While others would never dream of riding a bicycle down the side of cliffs! Watch the highlights from last year’s event here, and be sure to tune into this years edition in October.
That’s a wrap for this week’s weekly mash up, we are looking forward to the weekend and spending some time on our bicycles. Enjoy it and we wish you many safe miles.
