Not many cycling fanatics around the world would have predicted that Geraint Thomas would be riding on to the Champs-Elysées in Paris wearing the yellow jersey. After a fascinating 3 weeks of racing the Welshman from Team Sky has come out on top. Team Sky continue their dominance at the Tour de France having won 6 of the last 7 editions of the race. Although a grand tour can be lost in the first week of racing it is most definitely won in the third week. Geraint was the strongest rider over the three weeks and having Chris Froome in his corner during the race benefited him hugely.
It’s been three weeks of exciting racing! It all culminates on the Champs-Elysées tomorrow, a ceremonial ride into Paris but once the peloton hits the cobbles the racing begins. It is every sprinters dream to win in Paris, but with so many pure sprinters having left the race this year, having not made the time cuts during the mountain stages, could we see the break away succeed?
There were some nervous moments during the race this year. Big crashes had spectators holding their breath as we waited to see that the riders were okay. With the crashes came phenomenal displays of courage and tenacity as the riders showed how much being given the opportunity to race on cyclings biggest stage meant to them.
How did you keep up with everything related to the tour? We have used a combination of live coverage, podcasts, social media updates, lives tweets and daily catch-up blogs from a few of our favourite cycling commentators. Enjoy the final stage!
