Can you believe it, the start Giro d’Italia is almost upon us, yes it is CRAZY we know!
It feels like yesterday that we were watching Chris Froome receive the red winners jersey at the Vuelta Espana. It was Chris’s first Vuelta title and it sure drew plenty of media attention following a questionable result in an in- competition doping test.
Let’s move on though, we don’t want to get caught up in politics…the Giro is our focus for the moment.
The Giro d’Italia dates way back to 1909, it is a race that has a deep history and the passion of Italians is a strong feature in the races background. Watch this quick video for summary of where and how the Giro was born.
So, what does this year’s edition have in store for the peloton and the spectators?
The contest to top the General Classification rankings at the end of the 3 weeks, promises to bring spectators some phenomenal racing. Here are 10 of the riders that Cycling weekly have their eye on to claim the title. Will Tom Dumoulin defend his title or will we see another dominant grand tour performance from Chris Froome?
Here is a summary of all the stages, this year’s edition has 8 mountain top finishes which will no doubt play a major role in deciding this year’s victor…it is certainly going to be a race where we will see some of the best climbers in the world showing their strength.
It’s time to get ourselves ready for some grand tour racing, with the majority of the monuments and classics completed, the focus is starting to shift. From the 4th to 27th of May, the 21 stages of the Giro d’Italia will have our full attention and we suggest you watch as much of it as you can!
