The past week was filled with big smiles as the Sundays Insurance team delivered the first batch of two hundred and fifty kids bicycles to various rural communities in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Aitsa! After Care, Songo and Usiko were the first beneficiaries to benefit from our Ride & Shine campaign. All three of these initiatives focus on promoting cycling in rural communities and keeping children positively engaged after school.
“To master something empowers a person. These bicycles will help give children independence, freedom and confidence. In affluent neighbourhoods, almost every household owns a bicycle. In Kylemore, it is a luxury. We can’t wait to see these bikes being enjoyed in the street of this town,” says Marleen Lourens, volunteer and biking coordinator at Aitsa!
The container filled with bicycles arrived in Cape Town Harbour late July and The Stellenbosch Rotary Club, one of the oldest Rotary Clubs in South Africa, assisted with all the logistics and helped us to identify potential beneficiaries. Through the Ride and Shine campaign, Sundays Insurance co-founder, Aryna Edwards, hopes that many more young riders will get the opportunity to experience the joy of riding.
We would like to thank our partners; Bicycles for Humanity, Rotary Club of Empangeni, Correlation Risk Partners and Bike and Run East Finchley for helping us make this campaign a reality and for investing in the riders of tomorrow. The rest of 2019 will be filled with even more smiles as the remaining three hundred and fifty Huffy bicycles will be distributed.
